Appraisers fight for state-action defence in federal court

Louisiana’s state board of real estate appraisers has asked a federal district court to retain jurisdiction over the Federal Trade Commission’s decision that the board should not be granted state-action immunity.

The Federal Trade Commission and House Judiciary Committee appear to be stuck in a stalemate regardless of whether their quarrel occurs in letters or public hearings. Pressed by Republican lawmakers about the FTC’s responses (or lack thereof) to various document demands, the commission’s director of congressional relations had very little to say. “I’m not able to provide that information today, but we're happy to continue talking to your staff,” Jeanne Bumpus said.
