An attorney representing an Avianca customer in Manhattan relied on ChatGPT to prepare a filing opposing the carrier’s recent motion to dismiss his client’s personal injury claims. It did not go well: the AI tool made up unrelated citations and produced false judicial opinions, and Judge Kevin Castel was not pleased. Now, the New York federal judge – who is also presiding over the Google Digital Advertising antitrust litigation – is at a new tech crossroads: give the counsel begging for forgiveness a second chance or not?
