A company holding shares in a rival has been a hot topic in antitrust for some time, alongside the sister issue of common ownership – when a company, such as a major investment fund, holds shares in various competitors in a market. Australia’s competition watchdog this week launched a probe into a comparison website owner over a series of minority stake acquisitions in a competitor, showing that the issue is squarely on the agency’s radar.
