2020 hangover: The Asia-Pacific Tipline for 8 January 2021

It is no surprise that the first week of 2021 was relatively quiet in the Asia-Pacific region, as a flurry of developments marked the close of 2020. Those included Australia’s competition watchdog rejecting a Google/Fitbit remedy accepted in Europe; China launching a probe of Alibaba that could serve as a bellwether for digital enforcement; Hong Kong initiating its first-ever abuse of market power case; Korea’s conditional clearance of a major merger in the food delivery sector; and Japan’s imposition of fines in the high profile “maglev case”.
