For the eighth year, the GCR Awards stood as a celebration of the world of competition law – the matters, the people, and the enforcers who fought the smartest battles and advanced our understanding of what antitrust can and should be. The international competition community voted for the people and matters they felt represented the best of the best in 2017. They chose from shortlists of nominees in which any of the people, matters or institutions listed would have been a deserving winner.
On 10 April, GCR held its annual awards ceremony at the Four Seasons hotel in Washington, DC, following its third GCR Live Cartels conference. More than 300 people attended the ceremony, which was capped by Jean-Francois Bellis presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to Bruno Lasserre, the trailblazing former president of France's Competition Authority. All proceeds from the charity dinner went to the Swawou School, a girls school in Sierra Leone funded by Law Business Research, the parent company of GCR. Norton Rose Fulbright generously sponsored the event and hosted the official after-party.
