The agency is now the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS), reflecting its new role administering the country’s consumer protection laws, which came into effect in April 2018. It’s not clear if this will have much of an effect on competition enforcement, but the agency says the 11 staff members who now work in the consumer protection division can also be drawn on to work on competition matters. “I think that’s partly testament to the fact that they are known to be doing a good job on the competition side,” one lawyer says.
