05 September 2019

Star Rating:      Performance:   Head of Agency: Anna Rawlings An 18% budget increase for competition-related work did not lead to more activity at New Zealand’s Commerce Commission (NZCC) last year. In a quiet 2018, it imposed no cartel or abuse of dominance fines. The Commission stayed relatively busy with mergers, however, as it reviewed more of them than it had in the previous year. The agency also did not hesitate to investigate deals that companies had not notified under the voluntary regime.
