E.Ca Economics

11 January 2018

The fully antitrust-dedicated consultancy E.CA Economics is led by brilliant competition economists Hans W Friederiszick and Rainer Nitsche, who are both Who’s Who Legal: Competition nominees alongside Vincent Verouden. With its key partnerships with the European School of Management and US firm Bates White – another consultancy recognised by the Economics 20 – and a savvy group of 26 full-time economists in the field, it is no wonder E.CA has its name to a full range of leading cases.

The bulk of their work is confidential, but E.CA consulted for clients regarding 17 mergers – six of which were subject to an in-depth investigation by a competition authority. Key deals included HeidelbergCement/Italcementi, Duna Drava Cement/Cemex Croatia and international refractory merger RHI/Magnesita.

The team is involved in some of the world’s leading cartel cases, including trucks, air cargo, sugar, branded drugstore products, chocolate and cookies, detergent, cathode ray tubes, elevators, beer and bearings. They advised shoemaker Asics on its selective distribution system, and another client on the privacy concerns regarding a social network. E.CA also has antitrust cases on the go in the railway and agricultural sectors, and one of its team members acted as the court expert when Austria’s Cartel Court blocked a major planned casino tie-up.
