The bulk of their work is confidential, but E.CA consulted for clients regarding 17 mergers – six of which were subject to an in-depth investigation by a competition authority. Key deals included HeidelbergCement/Italcementi, Duna Drava Cement/Cemex Croatia and international refractory merger RHI/Magnesita.
The team is involved in some of the world’s leading cartel cases, including trucks, air cargo, sugar, branded drugstore products, chocolate and cookies, detergent, cathode ray tubes, elevators, beer and bearings. They advised shoemaker Asics on its selective distribution system, and another client on the privacy concerns regarding a social network. E.CA also has antitrust cases on the go in the railway and agricultural sectors, and one of its team members acted as the court expert when Austria’s Cartel Court blocked a major planned casino tie-up.
E.CA Economics is working on central topics in the field of competition policy and regulation. These include case-related work on European competition matters, such as merger, antitrust or state aid cases, economic analysis within regulatory procedures and studies for international organisations on competition policy issues. E.CA Economics applies rigorous economic thinking with a unique combination of creativity and robustness in order to meet the highest quality standards of international clients. E.CA has offices in Berlin and Brussels.

With the majority of staff being native or close to native German language speakers, we consider us the largest DACH antitrust group, and market leader with respect to the number of projects and client base. E.CA works for several large corporate clients on digital matters (ongoing matters; confidential); we continue working on major cement mergers in Europe and several other large mergers in the automotive and construction industries. We also increased our footprint on State aid cases over the years, working, for instance, on a large regional State aid case. In addition, we represent several rail incumbents in European matters (abuse cases and State aid cases). E.CA represents both defendants and plaintiffs in leading litigation cases in Germany, Austria and UK, including the sugar, air cargo, trucks, elevator and smart card chips cartels and several cases pursued by the liquidator of the former German drugstore Schlecker as well as many other cases including Mastercard/ Visa litigation.
