Both E.CA Economics leaders, Hans W Friederiszick and Rainer Nitsche, are Who’s Who Legal nominees, and all of its economists work exclusively on competition-related cases. Through its partnerships with the European School of Management and Technology and US firm Bates While LLC, the firm benefits from academic and transatlantic expertise.

Important European matters in the past 12 months include representing parties in the Slovak Telecom abuse of dominance case, advising a leading European producer in the Smart Card Chip information exchange case and helping parties in the Telefónica/E-Plus merger. In Germany, the team has worked on mergers in the press logistics, payment systems and mineral insulating material industries. In litigation, the firm worked on cartel investigations in the branded groceries, fire-fighting vehicles, de-icing salt, rail track and gambling markets. E.CA economists advised the Düsseldorf court in quantifying damages in the cement cartel – the highest-ever cartel fine in Germany to become effective. Staff members have also been seconded to the UK Competition Commission.
