Heenan Blaikie

06 December 2012

Canada

The three-partner antitrust team at Heenan Blaikie, led by Who’s Who Legal nominee Subrata Bhattacharjee, is another lean-and-mean, mid-market Canadian practice that more than holds its own in securing work in major cartel and merger matters. While Bhattacharjee and the rest of the core competition group primarily handle merger and advisory work, they also instruct a seven-partner litigation practice active for clients in criminal cartel investigations and civil class-actions.

In those matters, the team has acted for core client BMW in the auto imports case, Korean Air in the air cargo and passenger litigations, Hitachi LG in the optical disk drive case, as well as companies involved in the auto parts and Libor investigations. Notably, the firm is also advising Global Fuels, one of the only companies to contest the Competition Bureau’s charges in the Quebec retail gas case, with hearings in that case set for early 2013. On the merger side, the team has acted for Brookfield Renewable Power, AG Financial and others. Major advisory clients include American Express, Deutsche Bank, Netflix, Philip Morris, Warner Brothers and Lionsgate, among others.
