Crowell & Moring LLP advises on a range of competition issues including domestic and international transactions, civil litigation, criminal defence and general antitrust counselling. Partners Randolph Smith and Robert Lipstein co-chair the firm's antitrust group, alongside vice-chair Christopher Ondeck.

This year, the firm added AOL, Avaya, Enterprise Holdings, and Johnson & Johnson to its books, as well as representing AOL and Yamaha Corporation of America in antitrust litigation and advising AT&T in the iPhones class action.

The group has handled several high-profile M&A matters, including AT&T's US$1.4 billion sale of Sterling Commerce to IBM and Alcoa's acquisition of Three Rivers Aluminum Company. The team also advised Reed Elsevier on its $4.1 billion acquisition of ChoicePoint and United Technologies on its $1.8 billion acquisition of GE Security.

On the criminal side, the team has represented clients under investigation in the agriculture and aviation industry, as well as several sectors of the retail industry.
