Partner and Who's Who nominee Stephen Kinsella OBE leads Sidley Austin LLP's Brussels competition practice, together with managing partner Stephen O Spinks. The team includes four partners and four associates. Partner Kristina Nordlander focuses much of her practice on the pharmaceuticals and life sciences industries, providing regular advice to Pfizer and pvlegal - a coalition of in-house lawyers at pharmaceutical companies. Nordlander founded the Women's Competition Network in 2008, which continues to attract top-level international speakers from the antitrust world.

Fellow partner Ken Daly has particular expertise in competition in the sports sector, advising the motorsport regulator Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, and its motorcycle counterpart on various competition matters.

Kinsella is regular counsel to eBay and Microsoft, representing the former on its sale of communications company Skype, and the latter - most recently - on its intervention in the Oracle/Sun merger.

On the litigation side, the firm was co-counsel to the European Company Lawyers Association as an intervener in the Akzo Nobel challenge before the EU Court of Justice in relation to in-house legal privilege. Other long-standing competition clients include Aon and Kimberly Clark Corporation.

United States: California

Who's Who nominee Samuel R Miller heads the California antitrust practice at Sidley Austin LLP. Its five partners and five associates spread between Los Angeles and the Bay Area have handed several high-profile matters over the past year, including defending CMS Energy against class actions alleging a conspiracy in the natural gas industry; advising Kindred Healthcare in two separate collusion cases, and LG Electronics in both the cathode ray tube and liquid crystal display cartel cases. Other clients include Stewart Title Guaranty Company, and a California steel mill sued under state antitrust laws.

United States: Illinois

The 15-partner Chicago team at Sidley Austin LLP are litigators first and foremost. The firm says its "experience and success in taking large, precedent-setting or 'bet the company' cases to trial" sets it apart from its peers. Over the past year, the firm has helped win dismissal of a monopolisation case against client AT&T. It has seen several state attorneys general cases against client Bayer Corp thrown out. And it advised Citigroup in the interchange fee litigation against Visa and MasterCard.

Like several other Chicago firms, the Sidley antitrust team boasts a portfolio of health care clients including the American Medical Association, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, the aforementioned Bayer and others. Much of this work has been part of the headline-grabbing generic drug litigation in courts around the country, led by Sidley partner and Who's Who nominee John W Treece.
