Yoon & Yang LLC also has a historic competition practice. Indeed, one of the firm's previous incarnations, Yoon & Partners, produced some of the first competition lawyers in the country, including managing partner and Who's Who nominee Hoil Yoon.
The firm has experienced rapid growth, now boasting 50 practitioners dedicated to competition and antitrust matters. It gained three more associates last year. Yoon & Yang's competition practice comprises several former high-ranking commission officials, including the commission's long-time secretary general Joseph Seon Hur, also a Who's Who nominee.
Over the past five years, the firm's client base has expanded significantly as well. Intel, Qualcomm, Samsung, LG, Korea Telecom and Toshiba have all sought out the Yoon Yang team to handle competition matters.
In 2010, the firm began advising a Japanese company in the commission's cartel probe of optical disk drive makers. It is counsel to several other companies under investigation by the commission, including in the air conditioning market. It is also representing Korea Electric Power Corporation in a private antitrust lawsuit filed against the four largest Korean wire and cable producers, claiming for damages from alleged cartel activity.
Yoon & Yang recently represented SAFRAN on its acquisition of GE Homeland Protection and acted for LG Telecom in opposing the merger between Korea Telecom and its wireless phone affiliate, KTF.
