Bowman Gilfillan’s competition group boasts three nominees in The International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists: Derek Lotter, Jean Meijer and practice head Robert Legh. They are supported by a further four partners, 11 senior associates, four associates and one consultant.
Meijer says competition is the fastest-growing practice area in the firm, while other sources credit the group as being one of the strongest in South Africa.
The firm is one of several commissioned by Sasol to conduct comprehensive competition law audits of their various business divisions. It is also advising the company on a complaint in the fertiliser industry, which saw a 250 million rand (€22.3 million) fine imposed.
Bowman Gilfillan is advising in several contested litigation proceedings before the Competition Tribunal, including a hearing into standard-setting in the vehicle tracking industry and complaints against SABMiller with regard to its distribution policies.
The competition team’s impressive client roster includes BHP Billiton, British Airways, Colgate, General Electric, Merck, Pfizer and Nestlé.
