Vogel & Vogel

14 January 2010

Vogel & Vogel is yet another independent firm in the top tier. Brothers Joseph and Louis Vogel - both Who’s Who nominees - founded the firm in 1990. The boutique, which specialises solely in competition, has the largest competition team in France, with two partners, 22 associates and eight of counsel. The brothers never make lateral hires, preferring to hire trainees that work their way up the ranks. The firm mostly handles litigation and behavioural matters, although it also does some merger work.

Vogel & Vogel represented Bouygues Télécom in a landmark case against Apple and Orange before the Competition Council and the Court of Appeal, where Orange was eventually forced to give up its exclusive contract with Apple to distribute the iPhone. France is the only country so far in which such a case has been successful. It also successfully defended Mattel and Playmobil against allegations that they had participated in a cartel to fix resale prices for Christmas toys.

In the transport sector, the firm acted for ferry company SNCM after a complaint that it was abusing its dominant position in the provision of ferry services between Marseille and Corsica. It is also representing TV channel TF1 in a case involving access to pay-TV channels, and Shiseido in a case alleging price-fixing in the cosmetics industry.
