Yves Bériault is a senior partner at McCarthy Tétrault’s Montreal office and is one of the leaders of the firm’s national competition and antitrust law group. He advises a broad range of Canadian and international clients on all aspects of Canadian competition law including litigation. Mr Bériault has been involved in many landmark cases involving competition legislation before all courts and the Competition Tribunal. More recent matters in which Mr Bériault has been involved include Télémédia Radio Inc’s merger with Astral Média and related litigation; Sanofi-Synthélabo’s merger with Aventis SA; Pechiney’s merger with Alcan; Molson Inc’s merger with Coors; CP Ships merger with Hapag-Lloyd; L’Oréal’s merger with Body Shop; and Abitibi Consolidated Inc’s merger with Bowater Inc.Mr Bériault appears as one of the world’s leading competition lawyers in Euromoney Legal Media Group’s 2006 Best of the Best. He also appears in Lexpert’s Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada and the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory; Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers; Euromoney Legal Media Group’s Expert Guides; Global Counsel 3000; The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers; and the 2006 Lexpert/American Lawyers Guide to the Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada as a leading lawyer in competition law. Mr Bériault obtained his Law degree in 1967 from the University of Ottawa where he graduated summa cum laude; he also holds degrees in philosophy, arts and economics. He clerked with the Honourable Gérald Fauteux of the Supreme Court of Canada, and was called to the Quebec Bar in 1968.
