Vera Toppings practices commercial and civil litigation, with a focus on class actions. She has represented Canadian and international clients in numerous class proceedings addressing noteworthy and emerging issues in the field. Vera was counsel on a number of the leading Canadian cases involving recent issues in competition class actions, including Godfrey v. Toshiba Corporation et al. (re Optical Disc Drives) and Shaw v. LG Chem Ltd., et al. (re Lithium-Ion Batteries). Her experience also includes cases involving product liability; breaches of contract and consumer protection law; and securities misrepresentation. She has appeared on behalf of clients before trial and appellate courts in Ontario and British Columbia, the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as in domestic and international arbitrations. She also regularly advocates for clients in complex settlements and multi-party mediations. Vera is Vice-Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s national Competition Litigation Committee.
