Dr Stephanie Birmanns is a counsel based in the Brussels office of SZA Schilling, Zutt & Anschütz. She has 20 years of experience in advising clients on all aspects of EU and German competition law. Stephanie’s practice focuses on merger control. She regularly steers clients through complex proceedings before the European Commission and the German Federal Cartel Office and counsels on the coordination of filings across multiple jurisdictions. Stephanie’s work includes the representation of German and international clients in cartel investigations and court proceedings at the EU and national levels. Clients also seek her advice on dominance matters, distribution issues and compliance-related questions. She has particular expertise in the manufacturing, chemicals, air transport, pharmaceutical, energy and insurance industries. Stephanie is recognised as one of the leading competition lawyers (inter alia, Who’s Who Legal, 40 in their 40s: Notable Women Competition Professionals ([email protected]), JUVE). She regularly speaks and publishes on merger control and competition law (inter alia, co-author of Frankfurter Kommentar). Stephanie is a graduate of the University of Mainz (1997) and received a doctorate in law (Dr iur) from the University of Cologne. She joined SZA in 2013 after five years as a counsel at leading US law firms. Prior to her admission to the bar, she interned with Germany’s Federal Cartel Office. Stephanie is a member of the Brussels and Karlsruhe Bars, the German Association of Competition Lawyers, the International Bar Association and the International Law Association.
