Sir Marcus Smith is a Justice of the High Court of England and Wales, sitting in the Chancery Division. He was appointed in January 2017. Marcus has been a Chairman of the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal since late 2009 – a position he continues to hold – and has handed down a number of significant judgments in all aspects of competition and telecommunications law. Before his appointment to the bench, Marcus was a barrister specialising in commercial and regulatory law, including commercial chancery work and intangible property. He was called to the bar in 1991, and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2010. Marcus has written widely in his areas of specialism. In particular, he is the author (with Nico Leslie) of The Law of Assignment, the third edition of which was published in 2018.
