Sílvia Fagá de Almeida is senior project manager in competition economics at LCA, with a degree in economics from the University of São Paulo and a PhD in economics from Fundação Getúlio Vargas, São Paulo (FGV-SP). Her thesis concerned competition policy, analysing empirically the concept of countervailing power and the healthcare sector in Brazil, and it was advised by Professor Paulo Furquim de Azevedo, former commissioner at CADE. The research was awarded first prize in a competition by the Secretariat for Economic Monitoring, Ministry of Finance. During spring and autumn of 2012, Sílvia Fagá de Almeida was a visiting scholar at the Institute of Latin American Studies at Columbia University, New York, investigating antitrust and regulatory issues in the healthcare sector. She is also a professor of graduate courses in economics at FGV-SP. Sílvia is an officer in charge of economic issues at IBRAC, Brazil’s main professional body for competition practitioners.
