Pedro M Meilán N

Pedro Meilán was born in 1965 in the Republic of Panama. He is married to Guillermina Benítez and has three children.Mr Meilán is a lawyer. He has been partner of the Panamanian law firm ABA Lawyers. Currently he is on a master’s degree programme on Business Administration with specialisation in Business Intelligence.Mr Meilán has been deputy general director of the Social Investment Fund of the government of Panama and has been appointed as a notary public by the president of Panama.He has been the administrator of ACODECO since 2006.Under his administration, ACODECO has hosted the OECD-BID Latin American Competition Forum in 2008 and Interamerican Forum of Consumer Protection Agencies (FIAGC) in 2009. In 2010, Panama’s competition regime was examined through the OECD Peer Review for the first time.Last year, Panama hosted the International Cartel Workshop of the International Competition Network (ICN).In July 2013, Panama will be the Pro Tempore Presidency of the International Consumer Protection Enforcement Network (ICPEN), and will have the responsibility, among other things, of hosting the Best Practices Workshops and ICPEN Summit later this year.In 2014, Panama, under the guidance of Mr Meilán, will act as Pro Tempore Presidency of the Central America Competition Network, being one of its founders.Mr Meilán has been a speaker at several events worldwide on competition policy and consumer protection topics.
