Kiran Meetarbhan

Executive directorPrior to her appointment as executive director of the Competition Commission of Mauritius (CCM) in July 2013, Kiran N Meetarbhan had been serving the CCM as the deputy executive director and director legal. Mrs Meetarbhan is a barrister and also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Mauritius. Prior to joining the CCM in 2009, Mrs Meetarbhan played a foundational role in the drafting of the Competition Commission Rules of Procedure and several of its Guidelines, among which are the CCM’s Guidelines on Collusive Agreements, Mergers, Remedies and Penalties.  As head of the CCM, Mrs Meetarbhan leads a team of 20 employees, of which 13 are investigative staff and seven are administrative staff. As the executive director of the CCM, Mrs Meetarbhan oversees the proper conduct and completion of enquiries and investigations into potential restrictive business practices in accordance with the Competition Act 2007 and the CCM Guidelines, guided by the CCM’s overarching objective of promoting competition in the interests of consumers, businesses and the Mauritian economy. As executive director, Mrs Meetarbhan is responsible for promoting awareness and advocating upon the provisions of the Act and the CCM’s enforcement activities in view of attaining more competitive markets. Mrs Meetarbhan worked as an International Fellow for the Federal Trade Commission in the United States from October 2011 to April 2012. On 3 September 2014, she was appointed as the vice chairperson of the African Competition Forum’s Steering Committee.
