Kazuyuki Sugimoto was appointed chairman of the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) in 2013. Before joining the JFTC, he was a Professor of the Graduate School of Public Policy, University of Tokyo. He had an extensive 35-year career at the Ministry and other government organisations, where he held the position of administrative vice minister of finance following director general of the budget bureau at the Ministry of Finance.He holds an LLB degree from the University of Tokyo and an MA degree from the University of Cambridge. He is registered as an attorney since 2013.
