José María Marín-Quemada was appointed chairman of the National Authority for Markets and Competition in September 2013. From 2005 to 2013, he was a member of the board of governors at the Bank of Spain. Previously, he was appointed professor of applied economics at UNED University, the University of Navarra, the University of Valencia and the Complutense University of Madrid, where he combined his academic work with a professional career in the private sector. He has published a number of books and papers on energy economics, microeconomic policies and monetary economics among other subjects.
