Jan Blockx advises on all aspects of competition law as well as general EU law and has represented clients before the European Commission and the European Courts and before the competition authorities and courts in several EU member States. He has worked on some of the most challenging European Commission investigations into alleged illegal State aid, including to financial institutions during the financial crisis, companies in restructuring proceedings, infrastructure operators and users, research institutions and companies in the transport, energy and manufacturing sectors. State aid measures which he has advised on include direct grants, equity investments, loans, guarantees, deferred tax and social security contributions and tax rulings.Jan has particular experience in State aid litigation, both before the courts of the European Union and national courts.Jan studied philosophy and law at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the University of Edinburgh and holds a postgraduate diploma in European competition law from King's College London.
