Giovanni Pitruzzella was appointed president of the Italian Competition Authority on 29 November 2011. Before his appointment, he practised administrative law. He has been full professor of constitutional law since 1994 and, from 1986 to 1993, he was associate professor at the Institute of Public Law.Prior to this he chaired several governmental commissions and the independent authority regulating strikes in essential public services. He has been legal consultant of parliamentary bodies, ministers and regional governments.In 2013, he was appointed by the president of the Republic as an expert advising the Parliament on economic and institutional reforms. He was later asked expert advice on constitutional reforms.He published six monographs, edited several books and co-authored a textbook on constitutional law, now in its 17th edition. He regularly publishes in law journals.
