Flavia Distefano

Flavia Distefano is the founding partner of Distefano Law Office (DLO) in Brussels. Flavia’s practice focuses on antitrust and competition law, particularly on cartel investigations, other antitrust behavioural matters (eg, vertical restraints, licensing and other cooperation agreements, compliance of joint ventures and of dominant companies) and merger control. Flavia has represented multinational companies in a number of high-profile competition cases before the European Commission and the Italian competition authority, including cartel proceedings and Phase II merger cases. She has particular experience in the chemicals, metals and energy industries. Flavia regularly advises companies and trade associations on sector-specific antitrust issues and on a range of regulatory matters, in particular those arising from compliance with REACH, CLP, biocide and pesticide regulations, the EU energy liberalisation and renewables/climate change packages, and other EU environmental legislation. She also has significant experience litigating before the European courts in Luxembourg.Flavia has practised in the competition, regulatory and related litigation fields in Brussels for almost 20 years, including with leading American law firms (Flavia was partner and head of the European competition and energy practices of an AmLaw 100 firm). She has contributed to various publications on competition law and is an active member of the American Bar Association’s antitrust law section and the International Bar Association’s antitrust committee. Flavia is a regular speaker on REACH, renewable energy and antitrust related issues, and a visiting professor at the University of Genoa (on its REACH master’s programme). She has been recognised in the Best Lawyers in Belgium list in the area of litigation/antitrust since 2010 and named Best Lawyer’s 2013 Brussels Litigation ‘Lawyer of the Year’. Flavia is a member of the Rome Bar and an associate member of the Brussels Bar.
