Bharat Budholia is a partner in the competition law practice at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. Bharat advises on the full range of competition matters, including cartel enforcement, abuse of dominance, merger control and competition audit and compliance. Bharat has represented various Indian and multinational clients across sectors such as cement, banking, pharmaceuticals, agro-chemical, natural gas, airlines, steel, manufacturing, FMCG, telecom infrastructure, polyester value chain products and airport infrastructure.Bharat has been involved in several merger notifications, including Yara/Tata Chemicals, Café Coffee Day/CCDPL, Piramal/Pfizer, JSW Energy/JSPL, Kotak/ING Vysya Bank, KKR/JBF Industries, Viom/American Tower Company, KKR/ATG BV, IOCL/HPCL/BPCL/MIAL (Mumbai Airport Fuel Farm), Highdell/Kalyan Jewellers, Torrent/Elder Pharma, BCCL/Aegon, AIA/Tata Life Insurance, UltraTech/Jaypee Cement, CIE/Mahindra Systech, KKR/Gland Pharma, KKR/Alliance Tire, Warburg/Lauras Labs, ABNL/Pantaloons and Punjab National Bank/MetLife, and was part of the team that was involved in obtaining CCI’s clearance in GSPC Distribution Networks Limited/GGCL, the first Form II merger notification filed in India.Bharat has also successfully represented several domestic and international clients before the Office of the Director General, the CCI and the Competition Appellate Tribunal in relation to alleged anticompetitive agreements and abuse of dominance investigations, including representing the Board of Control for Cricket in India, International Air Transport Association, Lafarge India Private Limited, ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd (Ola Cabs), Gujarat Gas Company Limited, Prestige Estates Projects Limited, UltraTech Cement Limited, Adani Gas Limited and Kesoram Industries Limited.Bharat has assisted on several publications in national and international journals on competition law, including the India chapter in the Cartels and Leniency Review for Competition Law International, the journal of the antitrust and trade law section of the IBA; the Antitrust Chronicle, the journal of the Competition Policy International; and the module on abuse of dominance in LexisNexis’ Practical Guidance.
