António Gomes is president of the Portuguese Competition Authority (PCA), having taken office in September 2013.Previously, he was a senior competition expert at the OECD in Paris (2013); director of the Merger Department of the PCA (2007–2013); senior economist at the PCA (2005–2007); acting director of the undergraduate degree in economics at the University of Aveiro (2004) as well as its deputy director (2001–2005); assistant to the Department of Economics, Management and Industrial Engineering of the University of Aveiro (1999–2005); and graduate teaching assistant (teaching fellow) in the Economics Department of the University of York (1997–1998).He has an undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Coimbra (1995); an MSc in economics from the University of York (1997); a masters in economics from the Nova University of Lisbon (1998); and a PhD in economics from the University of York (2005), with specialised training for competition authority economists from the Fordham Competition Law Institute (2009). He was born on 22 March 1973 in Coimbra.
