Amit has been with J Sagar Associates for over 16 years. He has anchored the firm’s projects, regulatory and policy practice, covering energy, communications, surface transport, municipal infrastructure, and social and development projects.He advises on constitutional, legal, commercial policy and regulatory issues, drafts legislation and policy. He helps evolve institutional frameworks, regulatory regimes, and policies to facilitate public-private partnerships and the efficient operations of utilities.Amit advises on commercial transactions in the above mentioned sectors and industries. He has handled various complex disputes involving commercial disputes, joint ventures, regulation and competition issues before the Supreme Court of India, High Courts, statutory appellate tribunals and regulators in compe­tition, power, hydrocarbons, telecoms and broad­casting, arbitral tribunals and expert bodies.Amit acts for government entities, regulators, Indian corporates, foreign investors and develop­mental financial institutions.His notable appointments include representing Tata Power and Reliance ADA in the Ultra Mega Power Project at Mundra, Sasan and Krishnapatnam; advising the governments of India and Bangladesh and Indian states on energy reforms and infrastructure PPP; advising investors and utilities in Delhi’s power sector over the last decade; strategic policy, regulatory and legal work in municipal infrastructure with the Ministry of Urban Development, WSP-SA (water and sanitation programme), the World Bank, JBIC and the ADB; and developing and implementing strategies, transactions and policies for the Tata Group; Reliance; ADA Group; Essar Group; Adani Group; Jaiprakash Group; British Gas; British Petroleum; the UK government’s DfID; Power Trading Corporation; and Star TV.Amit is a regular speaker and author on policy, law, regulation, project finance, reforms and private participation in infrastructure.
