Amílcar Peredo is the partner in charge of the antitrust practice group of Basham, Ringe y Correa. Mr Peredo obtained his law degree from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico. He also obtained a Masters degree from the Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, DC, specialising in antitrust law and is therefore familiar with United States antitrust law. Mr Peredo has been a lecturer in antitrust law at two of Mexico’s best known universities and in 2004 published one of the few books on Mexican antitrust law called (in English) Economic Competition: Theory and Practice. In 2005, Mr Peredo was the only non-government person from Mexico invited by the chairman of Mexico’s Antitrust Commission to attend the fourth annual conference of the International Competition Network (ICN) held in Bonn, Germany. The Antitrust Commission has asked him, from time to time, to review various issues in the antitrust area, including the draft of proposed amendments to the Federal Economic Competition Law, merger guidelines prepared by the Antitrust Commission and, most recently, the proposed immunity programme. Mr Peredo has been invited to speak at many conferences in Mexico, the United States and other countries on antitrust matters. Among other associations, he is a member of the antitrust committee of the International Bar Association and the antitrust committee of the International Section of the American Bar Association. In 2008 and 2009, Mr Peredo was recognised by Who’s Who Legal as one of the best antitrust lawyers in Mexico.
