Abdullah Hussain is a partner at the firm, with over 13 years of experience as part of the firm’s competition law practice. Abdul represents clients in various ongoing cartel investigations, abuse of dominance cases, and merger filings before the Competition Commission and appellate courts. Abdul has acted for clients across numerous sectors, including construction equipment, cement, glass, rubber, real estate, aviation, pharmaceuticals, telecoms and telecom infrastructure, auto parts, automobiles, e-commerce, paper, media, shipping, IT and ITeS, biotechnology, agriculture, mutual funds and private equity investments. Notable representations include JCB’s abuse case before the CCI and the Supreme Court, Jaiprakash Associates in its cement cartelisation matter, currently before the Appellate Tribunal, and advising Bayer in its acquisition of Monsanto.Abdul has been involved in this practice area since the formative stages of the Competition Act, during which time he has assisted the government of India and the then newly constituted Competition Commission of India in the formulation of its rules and regulations. Significant assignments undertaken in this area include preparing the CCI Regulations relating to mergers, determination of cost, general procedure, etc, and preparation of a report on India’s Competition Policy as part of the working group on competition policy set up by the Planning Commission of India in 2006.He has authored several articles on current competition law issues, and is a regular speaker at various conferences and seminars, including the Competition Roundtable at the Canadian High Commission, the India–United States Cross-Border Investment conference, and the third International Competition Law Conference in November 2016.EducationLL.M, The London School of EconomicsB.A.B.L (Hons.)
