Andreas is a partner in Freshfields’ antitrust, competition and trade group, based in the Brussels office. His practice focuses on European competition law spanning merger control and joint venture cases, antitrust compliance and investigations of anti-competitive behaviour, as well as competition litigation before the EU Courts. Andreas also specialises in EU State aid and regulatory procedures, including in the context of privatisations, with a focus on regulated sectors such as banking & finance, transport & logistics and telecoms & media. He also oversees our EU regulatory and public affairs practice, advising clients at the interface of law, politics and business.
His recent experience in the State aid arena includes advising Several European Banks on the EU State aid and related merger control aspects of their restructuring proceedings, which were prompted by the financial crisis and led by the European Commission under its State aid rules for financial institutions. He advised the Hellenic Republic on the EU State aid and regulatory aspects of two of its major privatisation programmes, as well as in respect of overall EU coordination for communication with the European Commission, and other EU institutions as necessary, in the context of the Government’s entire privatisation project. Andreas also advises multinational companies in relation to alleged State aid through tax measures.
