Sara Y Razi

Sara Y Razi focuses on antitrust matters, including government merger and conduct investigations, antitrust litigation and counselling on a variety of competition issues. A partner in Simpson Thacher’s litigation department, Sara joined the firm from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), where she served for nearly a decade.

Sara has represented clients in a number of significant matters since joining Simpson Thacher in 2013, including:

  • Ahold NV in the FTC review of its US$28 billion merger of equals with Delhaize Group;
  • DIRECTV in the DOJ review and clearance of its US$48.5 billion sale to AT&T;
  • Lorillard in the FTC review and clearance of its US$27.4 billion sale to Reynolds American.

Sara was recently recognised by The Legal 500 for antitrust and Euromoney’s Benchmark Litigation in 2016.

While at the FTC, she served several roles, including: deputy assistant director of the Bureau of Competition (2010–2013); staff attorney in the Mergers IV Division (2008–2010); and attorney advisor to FTC chairman Deborah Platt Majoras (2004–2008). During her tenure at the FTC, Sara was the recipient of numerous FTC awards, including the Award for Excellence in Supervision, the Bureau Director’s Award, and three Janet D Steiger team litigation awards.
