Petko Nikolov has been chairman of the Bulgarian Commission on Protection of Competition since 2003. He holds a master’s degree in law from the University of Sofia and a master’s degree in finance from the University of Veliko Turnovo. He also holds a PhD degree in economics from the University of National and World Economy.
In 1989, he specialised in criminal law at the University of Sofia, and in 2001, in customs, currency and tax control at the Svishtov Academy of Economics. He began his professional career as a trainee judge in the Sofia District Court. He has also worked as an attorney-at-law.
In 1989, he was elected as chairman of the Bulgarian Bar Association. A year later, he became secretary of the Sofia College of Barristers. From 2001 to 2003, he was chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Privatization Agency.
