Tickets available for GCR’s antitrust law leaders forum
Tickets are still available for GCR Interactive: Antitrust Law Leaders Forum, where a host of top competition enforcers from the US and Europe will come together to discuss digital markets and the future of enforcement.
The two-day virtual event on 4 and 5 February will be chaired by Charles River Associates vice president Margaret Sanderson and McCarthy Tétrault partner Jason Gudofsky.
The first day examines whether “classic” antitrust enforcement is equipped to handle fast-moving digital markets, while the second day will focus on future merger enforcement.
The panels will be split into two categories, first providing the enforcers’ view followed by those of practitioners.
Kicking off the first panel on whether classic antitrust enforcement can address concerns about digital platforms is Patricia Galvan, assistant director at the US Federal Trade Commission’s Technology Enforcement Division, and Guillaume Loriot, a director at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition.
Partners from Gleiss Lutz, Slaughter and May and Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati will then discuss the same topic alongside Uber’s in-house counsel Greg McCurdy, moderated by Allen & Overy partner Jürgen Schindler.
Closing out day one is a bonus panel on President-elect Joe Biden’s incoming administration and its potential antitrust enforcement priorities.
Former FTC chair Edith Ramirez and former FTC Bureau of Competition head Bruce Hoffman will speak alongside partners from Cravath Swaine & Moore and Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson. The panel will be moderated by Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partner Meghan Rissmiller.
Attendees will then be invited to a virtual networking session following closing remarks.
On 5 February, Andrea Coscelli, the chief executive of the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority, will discuss some of his agency’s merger decisions in 2020 and look ahead to key themes that will guide deal reviews in 2021.
FTC commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter and Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor Nancy Rose will also speak on the panel, which is moderated by Charles River Associates vice president Cristina Caffarra.
The final panel of the conference is moderated by Kirkland & Ellis partner Ian John and features General Electric’s in-house competition counsel Stacy Frazier and lawyers from London, Brussels and Washington, DC.
Attendees will once again be invited to a networking discussion to close out the forum.
