On Saturday, Australian citizens headed to the polls to elect members of the country’s 46th Parliament. Despite the Labor party being favoured to win, a coalition conservative party led by incumbent prime minister Scott Morrison won – and shocked people even more by securing an outright majority. Labor had been more outspoken about competition issues, having vowed to tackle price parity clauses, task the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission with post-merger reviews and more. Morrison’s government will have big decisions to make, including what to do when the ACCC releases its final recommendations on digital platforms next month.
