Gert Jan Koopman, the European Commission's deputy director general for state aid, will deliver the keynote address at GCR Live 2nd Annual State Aid in Brussels on 26 September.
Other speakers from government include European Union General Court judge Viktor Kreuschitz and Barbara Brandtner, the head of state aid strategy at the Directorate General for Competition.
Nicole Robins from Oxera and Bredin Prat partner Yelena Trifounovitch will chair the half-day event in Brussels, which will look at state aid enforcement and such aid's use in the energy sector.
The half-day conference begins with a keynote speech from Koopman before going into the first panel, which will focus on state aid in the industry, discussing the sector inquiry into national capacity mechanisms and asking if the recent decisions approving aid in the nuclear sector mark the start of a new approach.
The panel will be moderated by Robins, and include White & Case partner Kai Struckmann, Gleiss Lutz partner Ulrich Soltész, De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek partner Jaap de Keijzer and Iberdrola director Eva Chamizo Llatas.
After a coffee break, the conference will resume with a panel on monitoring, enforcement and recovery, looking at how the enforcement of state aid rules are changing and the current state of aid recovery. The panel will be moderated by Trifounovitch and include Brandtner and Judge Kreuschitz, along with Shearman & Sterling partner James Webber and Massimo Merola of Bonelli Erede Pappalardo.
The day will end with the chairs' closing remarks.
