Amateurs: The Tipline for 10 March 2020
Perhaps in preparation for one of the the biggest events in college sports this month – the March Madness college basketball tournament tips off next week – a federal appellate court heard oral argument yesterday on limitations to college athlete compensation. The case before the court was not about players’ ability to be compensated for use of their names, images and likenesses, yet much of the argument centred on how that likely development would change the “amateurism” that the National Collegiate Athletic Association says is at the core of its product.
